hello. i seriously love these communities, and this is not to start a fight or an issue and i hope no one takes this offensively, i was just curious as to what your feelings/opinions were on the topic. i know that certain dogs have bad reputations (dobermans, pitbulls, rottweilers, akitas, etc), and that many people who own these breeds say that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners, which is understandable. but why do you think these particular breeds got the reputations they did? as one person said in a previous post, cocker spaniels are the most frequent biters, yet they haven't been slapped with a negative label. why do you think that is? what do you think triggered people believing that these certain breeds were "bad"? i mean, part of me feels like there has to be some reason. i just don't know what it is..and i'd love for you to share your thoughts.
i really hope i didn't offend anyone. those aren't my intentions by any means.
:)

Hi all, I'm new here. I have a male dobermann called morse (ignore the username, I made it on a dare)...anyhow, I thought I'd post a livejournal link so you all can have a look at my baby. I live in Australia which is why he has natural ears. http://community.webshots.com/album/282512961hzkmdh

Hi, I don't own a doberman, but my friend does. Her dobe, is a 3 month old female and tries to "play" with another a year old small sized dog, and is just too aggressive for her [the other dog]. can you guys give me some advice to help her out? she is searching for a way to teach her not to bite. thanks!

New member! [01 Feb 2005|11:56pm]

Hey everyone!
I've been interested in getting a Doberman for a few years now, but only recently has it been a possibility. My fiancee is very concerned with me wanting this breed of dog, therefore I wanted to do a lot of research to be informed (and for my own sake, of course). One thing he is very concerned about is temperament with strangers or people not often around us (like family, friends). Based on your personal experiences, how do dobermans act around people other than their 'immediate families?' I know a Doberman should be 'aloof' to strangers by breed standards and isn't a typical 'happy happy a stranger!' dog, so to speak... so basically my fiancee is worried a Doberman is more likely to be vicious to a friend or family member in a situation, say if they were playing around with one of us and it appeared violent... I hope this makes sense. Anyway, any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I was just on browsing Petfinder and I found this pretty boy! He's so gorgeous! I wish I could adopt him but I couldn't possibly right now, but I thought I'd share him anyways. I figure any of the pups on the site could use all the publicity they can get right?

hi, my name's Monica and i just joined this community.

I'm looking into buying my first Doberman, unfortunately there are no breeders in my area (i've only found one in my state) (wyo) i've found a few breeders in CO, but none that i've heard much of or can get ahold of easily.

I was wondering if any of you had ever had any experience w/ buy online. i don't wish to, i'd rather have the chance to actually see and "meet" the puppy myself, but at the moment, and as far as i know, i'm running out of options. Am i just missing something? Does anyone know of a good breeder list or any Breeders in wyoming?

i think i will Call the Torrington Breeder, see if she will allow me to come and look at her dogs, i've heard good things about her, but just incase, i thought i'd ask you.

thank you in advance!

Well I havent wrote in a while, but I just got my fourth doberman, and she's beautiful. I named her Meistro! She's gorgeous and I love her very much, I believe dobermans are the most beautiful artistic looking dogs, theres just something about seeing your doberman prancing around the yard or running at full speed to chase away your neighbor. They're spectacular dogs, I'm sure everyone here agrees.

wow this is an awesome community! I have three Dobermans. Adolf, Napolean, and Ludwig, there great dogs, and their right from Germany, so I treasure them. They truly are wonderful dogs, everytime i see a Doberman in the peak of perfection like in a dog show, I'm amazed almost to tears! Doberman admiring is one of my top priorities!

fkghdfkjghh i understand why they generaize breeds that they dont accept at certain apartment complexes and such ... but my doberman is not vicious. he is not mean. hes about as unpredictable as any other dog who has a mind of its own ... and who happens to have been raised from 9 weeks old in a wonderful, loving, social, household that trained him well and treats him as if he were one of the children.

on the other hand .. my cousin was 8 and she was attacked and mauled by a golden retriever while staying at her friends house for a weekend.

i realize that there are more dobe & rott reports than there are goldens... but still. anything could happpen, no matter what the breed. it depends somewhat on the temperament in the bloodline, but MOSTLY how they are raised.

i think all dogs should undergo temperament assessment before saying NO DOBES, NO ROTTS and whatnot.

i know they do that at a lot of places, but that is very unfair.
